Please stop littering our community with your guerrilla marketing.
My new “mission” is to take down every sign I see.
Instead of trying to win new members concentrate on teaching basics of Christianity to those ALREADY in your congregation.
I have met many people who belong to your church, and have even been subjected to hearing one member’s testimony, and every day since then have witnessed this “man of God” in his work place acting in such a disgraceful way that it is commonly discussed by his coworkers.
There are no perfect Christians, but it is the responsibility of the leadership to LEAD. The life of a Christian should be enough to draw other people to them. If this isn’t happening, perhaps it’s time to re-evaluate.
I challenge you to look inward as a congregation so that when people see your signs on the side of the road it no longer causes resentment, anger and loathing.

Hello fellow citizen. My name is Tom Greentree and I’m one of the pastors here at the Erickson Covenant Church. I’m sorry these signs have upset you — our intention is only to invite people into a conversation. There’s no pressure — just a simple invite.

I’m sorry you would go around and take these signs down. I wish you wouldn’t. (And if you do, would you mind dropping them off at the church? They do cost money.)

Can I ask you? Would you be willing to talk to me personally, face to face? I’m very open to hearing your concerns, and I’d love to chat with you more about them. I’m happy to buy you a coffee. I’m not a scary fellow. Would you be willing to do that? Feel free to email me personally at

I’m very sorry that you’ve seen people who follow Jesus (or claim to) acting in a way that does not honour Jesus. I wish that didn’t happen, but it does. As you said, there’s no perfect Christian. In fact, our church is full of very imperfect people, some of whom are Christians and some who have not yet decided to follow Jesus.

Our hope as a church is to provide a place where all people are welcome to explore their faith journey. We love this Valley and want to help people wherever they are at. The truth is, the Alpha Course has helped many people come to know purpose in life and hope in Christ. (In fact, you are most welcome to join us this coming Wednesday night at the Covenant Church – 6:30, includes supper. Please consider this a genuine invitation).

Again, I’d love to meet and chat with you. I hope we can connect.

      Warmly,
      Tom Greentree
